Call +27 73 209 3004Yes, as long as the flue is installed correctly. That means the right clearance from the thatch, an insulated and sealed section where the flue passes through the roof, and a spark arrestor on top. We check all of this on site before we quote.
We suggest at least once a year, ideally before winter, and more often if you burn a lot of wood. Soot build-up raises the risk of a chimney fire, and under thatch that risk is not worth taking.
Gas does not throw sparks up the flue, so many thatch owners prefer it. It still needs correct venting and clearances, and we issue a Certificate of Compliance when the installation is done.
Often we can, but placement is everything. We keep the braai and its chimney well away from the thatch, use a proper hood and flue, and may suggest gas where space is tight.
