A braai that smokes into the patio is almost never the braai's fault. It is flue height, cowl choice or an enclosure that starves the fire of air. We build and install braais that draw properly in real Cape Town conditions, including the south-easter that makes half the patios in this city unusable from November onward.
We install built-in braais into new and existing walls, freestanding and gas units, and pizza ovens, complete with the flue, the framing, the fire-rated backing and the finishing. Gas installations are signed off with a Certificate of Compliance, which your insurer will expect if anything ever goes wrong.

Built-in braais. The classic Cape Town setup, set into a wall or an outdoor kitchen run, with a properly sized flue and spark arrestor.
Gas braais. Instant heat, no ash and no wood to store. Fixed gas units require a registered installer and a Certificate of Compliance, which we handle.
Pizza ovens. Wood-fired ovens as a standalone feature or built into an entertainment area alongside the braai.
Freestanding braais. Where a flue through the roof is not possible, or where you may want to take it with you.
Installation labour on an existing opening runs R3,500 to R4,800. A complete project including the unit, flue and building work typically lands between R18,000 and R45,000, depending on the unit and how much brickwork is involved.
Almost always flue height, cowl choice or an enclosure that starves the fire of air. Downdraught on exposed sites is common in Cape Town. We fit anti-downdraught cowls, extend short flues and check for negative pressure from extractor fans. A site visit or a few photos usually tells us which it is.
Yes, for any fixed gas appliance. It is a legal requirement in South Africa and your insurance depends on it. We arrange the CoC as part of every gas installation, and it costs about R950 for the first appliance.
Often yes. Where a flue cannot pass through a shared roof, a gas braai is usually the answer. Where a flue is possible we handle the body-corporate approval and seal the roof penetration properly.
A freestanding or gas unit is usually a single day. A built-in braai with brickwork, plastering and finishing takes two to three days, plus curing time before the first fire.
