Milnerton sits directly on the water, and that changes what a fireplace installation needs. Standard galvanised flue pipe, cowls and roof flashings corrode fast within a kilometre of the sea, which is most of this area. We fit marine-grade 316 stainless components here as a matter of course. They cost more up front and last several times longer, which on this coastline is not an upsell but the difference between a flue that survives and one you replace in three winters.
The other Milnerton constant is wind. Sunset Beach and the stretch toward Table View are properly exposed, and an exposed site with a short flue will push smoke back into the room no matter how well the fire is laid. Flue height and the right anti-downdraught cowl solve it, and we plan for that before the unit is ordered rather than returning to fix it afterwards.
Housing here runs from the older Milnerton Ridge homes with existing chimney breasts to the newer Century City and Royal Ascot townhouses with no chimney at all. The first group usually takes a closed-combustion insert into the existing opening. The second needs a twin-wall insulated flue routed through the roof, or a gas unit where a body corporate will not allow a roof penetration.
