The Chad-O-Chef Universal Grate is a gas fireplace grate that slots into your existing open fireplace and gives you flames at the turn of a knob. Your mantel, surround and chimney stay as they are, so the room keeps its classic character while the fire becomes far easier to live with.

A simple gas conversion
The grate is made to retrofit into a standard single-sided wood-burning fireplace, so there is no need to break out the opening or rebuild the hearth. It can also go into a new housing you design yourself.
Four sizes for different openings
Choose from 600, 700, 800 or 1000 mm widths. Larger sizes give more heat, so we match the grate to both your opening and the room it has to warm.
Safety first
An ODS (oxygen depletion sensor) safety system shuts the gas off if oxygen levels in the room fall. It lights with a simple piezo spark, and gas use is conservative for the heat it gives.
Choose your fire bed
Black coals come as standard. White pebbles and fire glass are available if you prefer a more modern finish.

Will the Universal Grate fit my fireplace?
It fits most standard single-sided fireplace openings. Measure the width, depth and height of your opening and send us a photo, and we will confirm which of the four sizes suits it.
Does a gas grate fireplace still need a chimney?
It goes into an existing fireplace with its chimney in place, which carries away combustion gases. We check that the chimney is clear and drawing well before we connect the gas.
