Why cast iron still makes sense
A cast iron fireplace heats up and then gives that heat back slowly. The Hestia weighs 124 kg, and all that metal keeps warming the room long after the last log has burnt down. You get calm, even heat for a long evening rather than a blast of warmth followed by a chill.
Better use of every log
Air is guided through the firebox to help the fire burn cleanly and reignite smoke and gases that would otherwise disappear up the flue. In practice that means stronger heat, fewer refuels and a fire that stays settled without constant fiddling. Northern Flame lists efficiency at 79.00%.
A clearer view of the fire
The flame picture is steady, and an airwash system helps keep soot off the glass, so you spend more time enjoying the fire and less time cleaning it.
Fuel choice and fitting
As a multi fuel fireplace, the Hestia runs on wood, anthracite, briquettes, eco logs and other approved solid fuels, which is useful when good firewood is scarce. It measures 68.2 x 53 x 38.7 cm, and the flue can leave from the top or the rear at 130 mm or 180 mm, which gives our installers options in tricky rooms.

What does Ecodesign certified mean for the Northern Flame Hestia?
It means the stove meets stricter efficiency and emission standards than older cast iron designs. It is not required in South Africa, but you benefit from a cleaner burn, less smoke and more heat from the same amount of fuel.
Should I choose the Hestia or the Mithras?
Pick the Hestia for small to medium rooms of roughly 50 to 100 m2. The Mithras is for spaces over 100 m2. Choosing the right size means the stove runs at its best and burns cleaner.
