What it does
A good fireplace cowl stops rain getting into the flue and helps the smoke leave in gusty weather. In Cape Town, where the south-easter and winter storms hit hard, a storm cowl is often the difference between a fire that draws cleanly and one that puffs smoke back into the room. Use it on large wood fireplaces, braai chimneys and other systems that run a 300mm double skin flue. The double skin design matches the insulated pipe below it, so the outer wall stays cooler where it passes the roof and the joint at the top stays neat and sealed. Stainless steel also resists the salty air we get close to the coast, which matters on homes in Blouberg, Hout Bay and the southern suburbs. See the rest of our storm cowls for insulated flues.
Fitting note
The end cowl must match the flue system and diameter exactly. Our team can supply and fit it as part of a new flue or replace a worn cowl through our chimney cowl installation service. For other flue parts, browse our flues and accessories.
Will this end cowl fit a single skin flue?
No, it is made for a 300mm double skin system. Single skin flues need their own matching cowl, so tell us your flue type and size and we will point you to the right part.
Not sure which cowl you need? Send us a photo of your roof and our team will match the part and arrange fitting.
