Description
The Godin Promes is a wide, low wood burning stove from Godin, the French company that has been making stoves since the 1800s. At over a metre wide and 200 kg, it is a statement piece that suits a large hearth, a farmhouse lounge or a modern living room with space to show it off.
Godin Promes Wood Burning Stove Features
A wide, landscape fire
The Promes measures 62.8 x 102.3 x 84.5 cm, so it is much wider than it is tall. That broad shape gives you a long, low fire to watch, a bit like a traditional open hearth but with the control and efficiency of a closed wood burner.
Mass that keeps the heat
A 200 kg stove holds a lot of heat. Once warmed up, it keeps radiating into the room after the fire burns down, giving gentle, even warmth instead of short bursts.
6.5kW output
At 6.5kW, the Promes sits in the sweet spot for a medium lounge. It gives enough heat for a cold Cape winter night without overpowering the room on milder evenings.
150 mm flue
The stove connects to a standard 150 mm flue, so our team can route it through the ceiling and roof or connect it to a suitable existing chimney.
Is the Godin Promes right for your home?
As a rough guide, a 5 to 7kW woodburning stove suits a small to medium lounge of about 40 to 70 m2 with a normal ceiling. Because the Promes is wide and heavy, it also needs a strong floor and a broad hearth. Send us photos and measurements and we will confirm the fit. Compare it with other freestanding fireplaces or the wider fireplace range.
Installation in Cape Town
We deliver and install the Promes with the right 150 mm flue, cowl and roof flashing for Cape wind and rain, and we check that the floor can take 200 kg. Learn about our fireplace installation in Cape Town, browse the Godin range, or read our guide to Godin fireplaces in South Africa.
Godin Promes FAQs
Does the Godin Promes need a special floor?
At 200 kg it needs a solid floor and a non-combustible hearth. Concrete slab floors are usually fine. On suspended timber floors we assess the structure first.
What size room suits a 6.5kW wood burner?
A medium lounge with a normal ceiling and decent insulation is the best match. In a large open-plan space it will struggle, so we would steer you to a bigger model.
