Description
A big room needs heat that travels, and the Hydrofire Merida fan insert is made to move it. The IT 100K is a built-in wood fireplace that sits inside a chimney breast or cladded wall, with a fan that pushes warm air out into the room instead of letting it collect near the fire. It is a strong choice for large lounges and open-plan living areas.
Hydrofire Merida Fireplace Fan Insert Features
A fireplace with fan-assisted heat
Most of the warmth from a plain wood fire rises and stays close by. The Merida adds a fan to circulate heat, so the far side of the room warms up sooner and you feel the fire across the whole space.
Serious output
Hydrofire rates it at 14.5kW nominal output with a heating area of 129m². That is enough to keep a big family room comfortable through a cold Cape winter night.
Efficient burn
At 73.5% efficiency more of the wood’s energy ends up as heat in your home. Dry, seasoned wood gets you the best result and keeps the glass cleaner.
Built-in size and flue
The steel insert measures 53.4 x 108.7 x 68.8 cm, weighs 130 kg and connects to a 180mm flue at the top. The wide shape gives a broad view of the fire, which looks great framed by stone, plaster or tiles.
Is the Merida right for your home?
Hydrofire’s heating area figure of 129m² makes it a fit for large open-plan rooms and double-volume lounges. In a small room it would run too hot, so tell us your room size first. Compare other built-in fireplaces if you need something smaller.
Installation in Cape Town
Our built-in fireplace design and cladding team builds the surround, fits the 180mm flue, cowl and flashing for Cape wind and rain, and wires the fan. We also handle compliance. See the full Hydrofire range, or read our guide to proven Hydrofire models.
Merida Fireplace FAQs
Does a fireplace fan need power?
Yes. The fan runs on household electricity, so we plan a power point near the insert during the build. The fire itself still burns wood and gives heat during load shedding, just without the fan.
Is an insert fireplace hard to install in an existing home?
It needs a proper surround and flue, but it can go into most homes. Our team checks the wall, ceiling and roof first and designs the cladding around the space.
