Description

The Godin Fonteval is a substantial cast iron wood fireplace from the French maker Godin, built to heat a big room and look good doing it. At 10kW and 133 kg, it is made for cold Cape Town winters in larger homes, where a light steel stove would struggle to keep up.

Godin Fonteval Features

Heavy cast iron, steady heat

With 133 kg of cast iron, the Fonteval takes in heat as the fire burns and keeps releasing it long after the flames die down. The room stays warm and even, and you add wood less often through the evening.

Power for a large room

As a cast iron fireplace with a 10kW output, it gives plenty of heat for a large lounge or open-plan space. Turn the air down on milder nights and it settles into a gentle, slow burn.

Built for wood

The Fonteval is a dedicated wood burner. Dry, seasoned hardwood gives the best heat, a cleaner glass and less ash to clear.

Classic French character

Godin has made cast iron stoves for well over a century, and its designs bring a traditional, crafted look to a room. The Fonteval measures 45 x 67 x 75 cm, so it has real presence on the hearth without feeling bulky.

Is the Fonteval right for your home?

We do not have a Godin heating area figure for this model, so as a rough guide a stove of 8 to 10kW suits a larger lounge or open-plan room of about 70 to 120 m2 with normal ceilings. High ceilings or lots of glass need more heat. Send us your room size and photos and we will confirm the fit, or compare it with our other freestanding fireplaces.

Installation in Cape Town

Our team supplies and installs the Fonteval with a 150 mm flue, a cowl suited to the south-easter and roof flashing that keeps winter rain out, and we issue the compliance certificate. Godin Fonteval FAQs

How big a room will the Godin Fonteval heat?

As a rough guide, a 10kW wood fireplace suits a room of about 70 to 120 m2 with standard ceilings. Insulation, windows and ceiling height all change that, so our team checks your space before you order.

Is the Fonteval heavy to install?

At 133 kg it is a heavy stove, so it needs a solid floor and a proper hearth. Our installers bring the right equipment to move it safely and check the floor before placing it.

Why choose a Godin fireplace?

Godin is one of the oldest names in cast iron stoves, and buyers choose it for long life, steady heat and classic looks. The range runs from small stoves to large heaters like the Fonteval.
