Description
The Chad-O-Chef Contemporary gives you a real flame and instant heat without the work of a chimney. It is a flueless LPG gas fireplace in stainless steel that you build into a wall, so it reads as a clean, modern feature rather than an appliance.
Chad-O-Chef Contemporary Gas Fireplace Features
Big heat for open-plan rooms
Rated at 12kW, it can heat indoor areas of up to 144 m2, or about 466 m3. That is enough for a large lounge that flows into a dining room. The flame lights at the push of a piezo igniter, so there is no wood to carry or ash to clean.
Choose your finish
Pick a brushed stainless steel or black frame, and a stainless steel or black mirror backing. The burner bed comes with white pebbles as standard, with black coals or fire glass as alternatives. You can go understated or make it the main feature of the room.
Safety built in
An ODS (oxygen depletion sensor) system shuts the gas off if oxygen levels in the room drop. The body is stainless steel with heat-resistant coatings, it measures 120 x 50 x 25 cm and weighs 36 kg.
Is the Contemporary right for your home?
Because it is flueless, the room must meet a minimum size and have some fresh air flow, so it is best for larger living spaces rather than a small study or bedroom. Send us your room size and we will confirm. Other options sit in our gas fireplaces range.
Gas installation in Cape Town
The Contemporary must be fitted by a registered gas installer. Our team builds the wall recess with a load-bearing lintel above it, runs the gas line in from behind, and issues the gas certificate of compliance. Learn more about our gas fireplace installation, or see the wider Chad-O-Chef range.
Chad-O-Chef Contemporary FAQs
Does a flueless gas fireplace need a chimney?
No. The burner is made to run indoors without a flue, which is why it can go into almost any solid wall. You do need a room of the right size and normal ventilation, and we check this on site first.
Is Chad o Chef only a gas braai brand?
Chad o Chef is well known for gas braais, but the brand also makes indoor fireplace models like the Contemporary. Both use LPG, so if you already have a gas braai the supply setup will feel familiar.
How is the Contemporary installed?
It goes into a recess in a wall in a single-sided layout. The opening needs a lintel to carry the wall above, and the gas line enters through holes at the back of the stainless steel body.
