Description
Open-plan homes with high ceilings soak up heat fast, which is where the 12kW Hydrofire Ferro earns its place. This Ferro fireplace is a heavy cast iron fireplace with a roomy firebox, made for families who want one fire to warm the lounge, dining area and kitchen through a proper Cape winter.
Hydrofire Ferro Wood Fireplace Features
Serious heat output
At 12kW the Ferro sits near the top of the Hydrofire cast iron range. It brings a cold room up to temperature quickly and has enough in reserve for the wettest July weekends, so you are not running a heater in the next room as well.
A big firebox for longer burns
The wide firebox accepts larger logs, so you spend less time splitting wood and less time getting up to reload. A full load burns for longer, which is handy late in the evening.
Solid cast iron construction
Weighing 180 kg, the Ferro is built to last. Cast iron warms evenly and keeps releasing heat long after the flames have died back, which keeps the temperature steady and cuts the wood you burn.
Three-stage combustion
Air comes in below the fire, along the glass and at the top of the firebox. This helps burn off smoke and gases, keeps the glass clearer and gets more heat from every log. A sturdy handle makes loading simple.
Is the Hydrofire Ferro right for your home?
Hydrofire does not publish a heating area for the Ferro, so use this rough guide: a 12kW wood fireplace suits very large rooms, open-plan spaces of well over 100 m2 or areas with high or double-volume ceilings. In a small lounge it would be too much, so treat it as a large room fireplace. It measures 42.3 x 62.7 x 86.1 cm, so check your hearth space too. Compare sizes on our freestanding fireplaces page.
Installation in Cape Town
Our team fits the Ferro with a 150 mm flue from the top outlet, a hearth plate and a cowl and flashing chosen for coastal wind and heavy rain. See how our installation service works, or read our guide to the top Hydrofire models. The full Hydrofire range is also online.
Ferro FAQs
Is the Hydrofire Ferro too powerful for my lounge?
It can be for a closed, small lounge. The Ferro is best where the heat can spread through an open-plan area or a tall room. Send us your floor plan and we will tell you honestly if a smaller model suits better.
How long are the logs it can take?
The firebox is generous, so standard firewood lengths fit easily. Share the size of wood you usually buy and we will confirm it fits before installation.
