Description
Loading from the side is the main reason buyers ask for the Dovre Tai 45 WD with Side Door. You can slide a log in from the side while the front glass stays shut, which keeps ash and smoke away from the room and lets you load longer pieces with ease. Add a solid cast iron body and 8.5kW of heat, and you have a stove built for real winter use.
Dovre Tai 45 WD Cast Iron Stove Features
Side loading door
The extra door on the side makes refuelling quick and tidy. It also helps when the stove sits in a recess or close to a seating area, where opening a wide front door is less handy.
Cast iron for steady heat
Cast iron warms up evenly and keeps releasing heat after the fire dies down. At 140 kg there is a lot of mass to store warmth, so the room stays comfortable for longer between loads and you use less wood over an evening.
Size and flue
The stove measures 42.5 x 61.5 x 80 cm and connects to a 150 mm flue. That flue size gives a strong draw, which helps the fire light quickly and keeps the glass cleaner.
Is the Dovre Tai 45 right for your home?
As a rough guide, an 8.5kW wood stove suits a larger lounge or open-plan area of about 70 to 120 m². High ceilings and big glass doors mean you will sit nearer the lower end of that range. Send us your room size and photos and we will confirm the fit. You can compare the Tai with other models in our Dovre fireplace guide, the full Dovre range or our freestanding fireplaces.
Installation in Cape Town
Our team supplies and installs the Tai 45WD with Side Door with a 150 mm flue, a wind-rated cowl for the south-easter and roof flashing that stays dry through the winter rain. Because of the side door, we also plan clearances on that side so it opens fully. Read more about our fireplace installation in Cape Town.
Dovre Tai FAQs
Can the Dovre Tai 45 heat an open-plan room?
In most open-plan homes, yes. Its 8.5kW output covers a combined lounge and dining area of normal height well. If your space runs up into a double-volume ceiling, we will check whether a bigger stove makes more sense.
Does the side door need extra space?
Yes, leave room on that side for the door to open and for you to reach in safely. We mark out the clearances on site so the stove sits right and the door is easy to use.
Is the Tai heavy to install?
It weighs 140 kg, so it needs a solid floor and a proper hearth. Our installers bring the right equipment to move and set it in place without damage to your floors.
