Description
Small rooms still get cold, and the Sentinel Ottawa Compact is built for exactly that problem. It is a compact multi fuel fireplace with a raised log stand, so you get a neat store of wood below and a fire at a comfortable height above, all in a footprint of just 36.5 x 48 cm. For a townhouse, cottage or smaller lounge it gives steady warmth without crowding the room.
Sentinel Ottawa Compact Features
Efficient heat from less fuel
Sentinel rates the Ottawa Compact at 85% efficiency, which is high for a stove of this size. A tertiary clean-burn system, opened and closed with a chrome lever at the base, draws extra air over the fire to burn off the gases. The result is more heat, lower fuel use and less smoke out of the cowl.
Glass you can actually see through
Primary and secondary air controls let you set the burn rate, and a pre-heated air wash sweeps across the glass to keep it cleaner for longer.
Easy to live with
The firebox is lined with vermiculite firebrick and takes logs up to 25 centimetres long. Cleaning is quick thanks to the lift-out cast iron grate and ash pan. The cast iron and steel body weighs 72 kg and stands 75 cm tall.
Flexible flue options
The 125 mm flue can leave from the top or the rear, which helps when you need to work around a beam or connect into an existing chimney.
Is the Ottawa fireplace right for your home?
As a 6kW fireplace rated by Sentinel for about 85 m², it suits a small to medium lounge, a study or a compact open-plan flat. In a room with high ceilings or a lot of glass, a larger model may serve you better. Browse our freestanding fireplaces to compare sizes.
Installation in Cape Town
Our installers fit the right 125 mm flue, a wind-rated cowl for Cape Town gusts and waterproof roof flashing for winter rain, then hand over the compliance paperwork. Find out how our fireplace installation works, or see every Sentinel fireplace we stock.
Sentinel Ottawa Compact FAQs
What can I burn in a multi fuel fireplace?
A multi fuel stove like the Ottawa Compact burns seasoned wood and approved solid fuels. Dry hardwood gives the cleanest fire. Avoid treated or painted timber, which can damage the firebox and dirty the glass.
Is the Ottawa Compact big enough for an open-plan home?
It works in a small open-plan space up to around 85 m². For a larger living, dining and kitchen area, our team will usually suggest one of the bigger Ottawa models.
