The Northern Flame Yandi is a heavy, multi-fuel cast iron fireplace built for long winter evenings, with a thick top that keeps radiating warmth after the fire settles. At 120 kg and 10kW it is a serious heater for a large lounge, and the flat top doubles as a spot to boil a kettle or keep a pot warm during load shedding.

Cast iron that holds its heat
The door, body and top are cast from Australian mineral iron ore rather than recycled scrap. Cast iron warms up steadily and keeps releasing heat, so the room stays even and you use less wood across the night.
Two stages of air for a cleaner burn
Primary air is drawn in through a vent low on the door and reaches the fire from under the grate. A second vent above the door supplies air that burns off the gases the first stage leaves behind and runs a pre-heated air wash down the glass, so the 42.5 cm window stays clearer for longer.
Overnight burn and big logs
Airtight door seals and manual air vents let you close the Yandi right down at bedtime. In the morning, open the controls, add fuel and it comes back to life. The vermiculite-lined firebox takes 50 cm logs, so there is less chopping to do.
Easy to live with
A riddling grate handles wood or coal, a cast iron baffle keeps heat in the firebox and the ash pan lifts out for cleaning. An ash pan tool, a glove and a manual come in the box, and the legs can be removed. It carries CE and British Standard EN approval and a 5-year limited warranty.

Can you cook on the Yandi?
Yes, within reason. The large flat top gets hot enough to boil a kettle or keep a pot of food warm, which is handy during power cuts. It has no oven, so think of the cooking side as a useful extra rather than a replacement stove.
Does the Northern Flame Yandi burn coal?
It is a multi-fuel model with a riddling grate, so it can burn wood or coal. Most of our Cape Town customers burn dry hardwood, which gives cleaner glass and less ash. We show you how to set the air for each fuel at handover.
Will it stay alight overnight?
With the vents closed down and a good load of wood, it holds a bed of coals through the night. Open the controls in the morning, add a few logs and it picks up again without a full relight.
