Description

Heat and cook from one fire. The Lacunza Altea is a freestanding wood stove with oven, a proper cooking fireplace with the oven above the firebox, made by Lacunza for homes where the fire is the heart of the kitchen or living area. Light it in the afternoon and you can bake bread, slow roast a joint or warm plates while the room heats up.

Lacunza Altea Freestanding Fireplace Features

An oven that runs off your heating fire

The oven sits above the firebox and uses heat that would otherwise go up the flue. It is roomy enough for a family roast or a couple of loaves, and you can see into it through the door, so cooking becomes part of a winter evening rather than a separate job.

Efficient burn, less wood

Lacunza lists an efficiency of 87 percent, which is high for a wood stove. In practice that means more of each log turns into heat in the room and the oven, and less goes to waste as smoke.

Takes standard logs

The firebox takes logs up to about half a metre long, so normal braai wood and split logs fit without extra chopping.

Is the Lacunza Altea right for your home?

The maker rates this stove to heat about 62 square metres, which suits a small to medium lounge, a kitchen-dining room or a cottage. Very high ceilings or lots of glass need more heat, so share your floor plan and we will confirm the fit. You can compare it with our other freestanding fireplaces.

Installation in Cape Town

Lacunza Altea FAQs

Can you really cook in the Altea oven?

Yes. Once the fire is burning well the oven heats up enough for bread, roasts and baked vegetables. Like any wood oven, the temperature depends on how you feed the fire, so it takes a few evenings to get to know it.

What size flue does the Altea need?

It connects to a 150 millimetre flue. We size the full flue run, including the height above your roof, during the site visit so that it draws well even when the wind picks up.
