Description
Light it after supper and wake up to embers. The Invicta Balham is a slender balham fireplace in cast iron that can run on slow combustion for up to 8 hours without refuelling, which makes it a strong choice for long Cape Town winter nights. As a 12kW fireplace by nominal output, it has a range from 8kW to 17kW, in a body that takes up little floor space.
Invicta Balham Cast Iron Fireplace Features
A true slow combustion fireplace
Invicta designed the Balham to burn slowly and steadily for up to 8 hours with no topping up and no fiddling with the controls. At the end you are left with a bed of hot embers, so a fresh log gets the fire going again in minutes.
Adjustable secondary air
You can tune the secondary air to suit your chimney. On a windy day with a very strong draught, turning it down keeps the burn under control. It also helps protect the glass from smoke and soot.
Clean glass and post-combustion
Air drawn in above the window flows down over the glass, forming a curtain that keeps soot off it, so you see the flames rather than a grey screen. Pre-heated air is also fed into the firebox, with extra air from the rear, to burn off gases at high temperature for more complete combustion and less pollution.
Size, weight and flue
The Balham measures 55 x 44 x 113 cm, weighs 125 kg and uses a 150 mm flue from the top. Efficiency is rated at 76%.
Is the Balham right for your home?
Our listing gives a heating area of 75 m² to 150 m², so it is a good fit for large lounges, open-plan family rooms and spaces with higher ceilings. Its narrow body works well in a corner or a slim chimney recess. Compare it with other freestanding fireplaces in our range.
Installation in Cape Town
Our team supplies and installs the Balham with a 150 mm flue, cowl and roof flashing that stand up to Cape wind and winter rain, and we take care of compliance. Read about our fireplace installation in Cape Town or browse the Invicta range.
Invicta Balham FAQs
How long will the Invicta Balham burn overnight?
Invicta says it can run up to 8 hours on slow combustion without refuelling. Results depend on the wood you use, so dry, seasoned hardwood gives the longest burn.
Will the glass stay clean?
The clean glass system sends a sheet of air down the window to keep smoke away from it. Burning dry wood and using the secondary air control correctly also helps the glass stay clear.
