Description
Glass panels on the sides turn the Hydrofire Verta Side Glass into a fire you can enjoy from almost anywhere in the room, not only from the couch in front of it. Underneath the extra glass it is still a solid cast iron fireplace with an 8kW output, so you get the view and the warmth together.
Hydrofire Verta Side Glass Features
A wider view of the flames
Most stoves only show the fire through the door. Here the side panels open up the firebox, which works well in open-plan homes where people sit at a dining table, a kitchen counter and a lounge suite at the same time. Everyone gets to see the fire.
Top or rear flue exit
This is the only Verta in the range with a choice of flue position. A top exit suits a flue straight through the ceiling, while the rear exit lets us connect into an existing chimney or out through a wall. That flexibility makes it a practical rear flue fireplace for older Cape homes with a brick chimney.
Cast iron and three-stage combustion
The 165 kg cast iron body stores heat and gives it back slowly. Air enters below the logs, over the glass and near the top of the firebox, which helps the wood burn cleanly, keeps soot off the panels and gets more heat out of every load.
How it compares to the other Vertas
The standard Verta is slimmer with front glass only. The Verta Pedestal adds a raised base. This side glass fireplace sits on its own legs at 47 x 45 x 102 cm, a little lower and broader than the standard model, and adds the side view plus the rear flue option. The Verta Pedestal Side Glass pairs side glass with the raised base but has a top flue only.
Is the Verta Side Glass right for your home?
Hydrofire rates it for roughly 50 to 95 m2, with an output range of 5 to 11kW around its 8kW nominal figure. That suits a medium lounge or an open-plan living area. See our other freestanding fireplaces to compare sizes.
Installation in Cape Town
Our team works out whether the top or rear outlet suits your home, then fits the 150 mm flue, cowl and flashing for local wind and rain. Here is how our fireplace installation in Cape Town runs, and you can view more models in the Hydrofire range.
Verta Side Glass FAQs
Is the side glass on the Hydrofire Verta Side Glass hard to keep clean?
Not if you burn dry wood. The airwash over the glass helps keep the panels clear, and a quick wipe with stove glass cleaner when the unit is cold sorts out any light haze.
Can it connect to my existing chimney?
Often, yes. The rear outlet makes a chimney connection easier. We inspect the chimney first and may recommend a liner if it is cracked or too wide to draw well.
