Description
Open-plan homes are lovely in summer and hard to heat in July. The Hydrofire Mega Max is our answer for that problem: a 10kW wood fireplace that stands on its own hearth and pushes out enough heat for a large lounge, dining area and passage combined. It weighs 77 kg and measures 48.4 x 49.7 x 81 cm, so it has real presence without crowding the room.
Hydrofire Mega Max Fireplace Features
Slow combustion that saves wood
As a slow combustion fireplace, the Mega Max lets you turn the air down once the fire is going. The wood then burns slowly and evenly instead of flaring up and dying. You load less often, you buy less wood over a season, and the room stays at a comfortable temperature for longer.
A big window on the fire
The wide glass door is a large part of the appeal. You see the whole fire from the couch, which is what most people want from a wood fireplace in the first place. Burn dry, seasoned wood and keep the air open at the start of each fire to help keep the glass clear.
Simple top flue connection
The flue leaves from the top of the unit at 142.5 mm. A straight run up through the ceiling and roof is the cleanest setup, draws well and keeps the cost of extra bends down. Our team will confirm the exact flue parts once we have seen your ceiling and roof.
Is the Hydrofire Mega Max right for your home?
Hydrofire rates the Mega Max for about 96 to 115 m2. That makes it a strong choice for a large lounge, an open-plan living area or a home where one fire has to do most of the work. In a small room it would be too hot, so look at a smaller model instead. Very high ceilings and lots of glass reduce the area it covers, so send us your floor plan and we will check the fit. You can compare it with every Hydrofire fireplace we stock, or browse our full range of freestanding fireplaces.
Installation in Cape Town
We supply and install the Mega Max with the right flue pipe, cowl and roof flashing for Cape Town wind and winter rain, and we sort out the compliance certificate. Read how our fireplace installation in Cape Town works from site visit to first fire.
Mega Max FAQs
Is the Hydrofire Mega Max a built-in or freestanding unit?
It is a freestanding fireplace. It stands on a non-combustible hearth with a flue going up from the top, so you do not need a brick chimney or a builder to open a wall. We check clearances to walls and furniture on site.
What size room does a 10kW wood fireplace heat?
Hydrofire gives the Mega Max a heating area of about 96 to 115 m2. In practice that is a big lounge or an open-plan space. Insulation, ceiling height and draughts all change the result, which is why we always ask for your room size first.
What fuel does the Mega Max burn?
It is made for wood. Dry, well-seasoned hardwood gives the most heat and the cleanest glass. Avoid wet or treated wood, as it smokes, wastes heat and builds up soot in the flue.
