Description
A wall between the lounge and the dining room is the ideal spot for the Hydrofire Bordeaux double sided insert. It has a door on each side, so both rooms get their own view of the flames and a share of the heat. Being an insert, it sits inside the wall and takes up no floor space in either room.
Hydrofire Bordeaux Double Sided Insert Features
Solid cast iron
The Bordeaux is a cast iron insert. Cast iron heats up evenly and keeps releasing warmth after the fire has burned down, so both rooms stay comfortable for longer.
Plenty of output
Output runs from 14 to 21kW, and efficiency is rated at 70%. That gives you enough heat to warm two connected spaces on a cold Cape night, and the air intake vents let you set how fast the fire burns.
Easy cleaning
Cleaning out is quick, thanks to the cast iron grate and an ash pan that lifts out. The firebox comfortably takes long logs, so you reload less often.
Size and flue
The unit measures 45.7 × 69.2 × 66.5 cm, weighs about 160 kg and has a 150 mm top flue. It is imported from Bulgaria and carries CE certification.
Is the Bordeaux right for your home?
Our spec sheet rates it for about 65 to 125 m². It suits two medium rooms joined by a wall or a large open plan home where the fire becomes a feature divider. Our article on heating two rooms with a double sided fireplace covers layout tips. Compare it with other built in fireplaces too.
Installation in Cape Town
Installing a double sided fireplace means building it into a wall that both rooms share. Our team handles the opening, the cladding on both sides, the flue, cowl and roof flashing for Cape wind and rain, and the compliance sign off. Hydrofire Bordeaux FAQs
Can the Hydrofire Bordeaux heat two rooms?
Yes. It has a glass door on each side, so the heat and the view reach both rooms. How well each room warms up depends on its size and how open it is.
Is the Bordeaux hard to clean?
No. The removable ash pan and cast iron grate make ash removal simple. Clean the glass when the fire is cold, using a damp cloth and a little fine ash.
