Description
Old-school looks and strong heat come together in the Dovre Classic 425 GM. It is a cast iron stove in the traditional style, ideal for Victorian homes, farm kitchens and any lounge where a modern box would feel out of place. With 8kW to 10kW of output, it has the power for a big room or an open living area in the middle of a Cape winter.
Dovre Classic 425 GM Features
- Cast iron fireplace body: at 125 kg it stores a lot of heat and keeps the room warm well after the flames die down.
- Multi fuel fireplace: burn seasoned wood day to day, or switch to smokeless fuel for a longer overnight burn.
- 8kW to 10kW output: enough heat for larger spaces, while still controllable on milder evenings.
- Practical size: 44 x 55 x 84.5 cm, so it sits comfortably on a standard hearth or in a wide chimney opening.
- 150 mm flue: a common size that keeps flue parts easy to source.
Is the Classic 425 GM right for your home?
As a rough guide, an 8 to 10kW fireplace suits a larger lounge or open-plan space of about 70 to 120 m² with a normal ceiling. Lots of glass, high ceilings or draughty older houses will lower that figure. Share your room size with us and we will confirm the fit. Compare it against our other freestanding fireplaces or the full fireplace range.
Installation in Cape Town
We supply and install the stove with the correct 150 mm flue, storm cowl and roof flashing for Cape weather, and can also connect it to a sound existing chimney. See how our fireplace installation in Cape Town works, or browse more Dovre fireplace models.
Classic 425 GM FAQs
Can the Dovre Classic 425 GM go into my old brick fireplace?
In many cases, yes. It can stand in a wide opening and connect to the chimney through a flue liner. We inspect the chimney first, since cracks or a poor draw need fixing before any stove goes in.
Which fuel works best in a multi fuel stove?
Dry, seasoned hardwood is clean and easy to light. Smokeless fuel gives a steady, long burn. Avoid household coal and treated or painted timber, which smoke heavily and damage the flue.
