Description
Two glass doors, a broad firebox and a traditional British shape make the Charnwood Island II easy to spot. Often searched as the Charnwood Island 2, it is a flagship Charnwood fireplace from the classic range. This upgraded version has larger windows and a slightly bigger combustion chamber than the original Island, with a clear step up in performance. Charnwood builds it on the Isle of Wight in the UK.
Charnwood Island II Fireplace Features
A wide, twin-door fire view
The two cast iron doors each carry a large pane of glass, so you see a wide spread of flame. Handles that stay cool make loading easy and safe, even with the fire going.
Multi fuel flexibility
A converter grate lets you burn wood or switch to smokeless fuel. A riddle tool shakes ash through the grate into a removable ash pan, which makes cleaning out quick.
Clean burn, clear glass
One push-pull control manages the air and the burn rate. Air wash technology sweeps the inside of the glass so the view stays clear. The Island II is Eco-Design 2022 ready with a ClearSkies level 5 rating, so it burns cleanly and wastes less fuel.
Built to last
The body is boiler plate steel with cast iron doors and top, weighing 133 kg. It measures 44.8 x 61.4 x 67.5 cm and takes a 150 mm flue from the top or the rear. Charnwood backs it with a ten-year limited guarantee. Black is standard, with special order colours available.
Is the Island II right for your home?
Charnwood gives a heating area of 106 m² for this model, so it suits a large lounge or an open-plan living area with a normal ceiling. Rooms with high ceilings or lots of glass may need a closer look, so share your room size with us. See the full range on our Charnwood page and among our freestanding fireplaces.
Fitting the Island II in Cape Town
Our fireplace installation team fits the 150 mm flue with a cowl and roof flashing that cope with the south-easter and winter downpours, and checks hearth size and wall clearances.
Charnwood Island II FAQs
What is the difference between the Island and the Island II?
The Island II has larger twin windows, a slightly bigger firebox and better combustion than the earlier model, so you get more view and more usable heat.
Can the flue come out of the back?
Yes. The Charnwood Island II has a top or rear flue outlet, which helps when you want to connect through a wall or into an existing chimney.
