Description
One fire, two rooms: that is the appeal of the Canature Taurus SI double sided insert. It sits in a wall between spaces, such as a lounge and dining room, with a window on each side, so both rooms share the view and the warmth. The straight lines and large glass give it a modern look, and at 9kW it has enough output for a typical family home.
Canature Taurus SI Double Sided Insert Features
Glass on both sides
Each face has a large viewing window, so the fire is the centre point of two rooms at once. It works well as a feature in a dividing wall or in an open-plan home where you want to separate zones without losing light.
Cleaner burning
The Taurus SI uses primary and secondary combustion. Extra air is fed in above the fire so smoke and gases burn off instead of going up the flue, giving more heat from your wood. An air-wash system helps keep the glass clear.
Compact steel body
The steel firebox measures 40 x 65 x 51 cm and weighs 110 kg. It is rated at 73% efficiency and has a top flue outlet for a 150 mm flue, which keeps the build simple.
Is the Taurus SI double sided insert right for your home?
Canature rates it to heat about 90 m², which suits a medium-sized home with two connected living areas. The heat is shared between both sides, so if one room is very large or has high ceilings, talk to us first. You can compare it with the single-sided version and others in our built-in fireplaces. Our guide to heating two rooms with one double-sided fire covers the pros and cons.
Installation in Cape Town
A see-through insert needs a wall built or opened up on both sides, with heat-safe cladding and space for the flue above. Our team plans and does the built-in fireplace design and cladding, fits the 150 mm flue, cowl and flashing for Cape wind and rain, and handles compliance. You can see more of our Canature fireplace range.
Taurus SI Double Sided FAQs
Does a double sided fireplace give less heat to each room?
The 9kW output is shared between both sides, so each room gets part of it. In two connected medium rooms that works well. For one very large room on one side, a single-sided unit may suit better.
Can the Taurus SI go into an existing wall?
Often yes, if the wall can be opened safely and there is a clear route for the flue. We check the wall, ceiling and roof on site before we confirm.
