Description
Big gatherings call for a big grill, and the Kamado Joe Big Joe I is the entry point into the large Kamado Joe size. Its 61 cm cooking surface gives you roughly 2,903 square centimetres of maximum cooking space, enough for a whole brisket, several racks of ribs or a full spread of chops and boerewors for the family. It keeps things simple, with proven parts and fewer extras, so you get size first.
Kamado Joe Big Joe I Grill Features
A classic vent for low and high heat
The cast iron daisy wheel top vent lets you fine-tune airflow, from gentle smoking at around 107°C up to hot searing near 399°C. Thick ceramic walls hold that temperature, so one load of lump charcoal goes a long way on a slow cook.
Room to cook several dishes
The two-tier Divide and Conquer system uses half-moon grates at different levels, so you can grill, smoke and roast side by side at different heats. The 304 grade stainless steel grates and the six-panel AMP ceramic firebox are made to handle years of heat.
Simple, practical design
This first-series Big Joe uses a standard hinge and a standard felt gasket, which keeps the build straightforward. A slide-out ash drawer, built-in thermometer, folding HDPE side shelves with tool hooks and an ash tool come standard. The steel wire cart has four wheels, two of them locking.
Is the Big Joe Series I right for your patio?
Choose the Big Joe Series I if you regularly cook for larger groups and want the bigger grate without paying for the newer hinge and vent. The grill weighs 163 kg and measures 93.5 x 147.5 x 135 cm, so it needs a solid, level spot with space around it. For smaller households, the Classic models in our Kamado Joe collection use a smaller grate. See all our freestanding braai options to compare.
