Description
Smoke blowing back into the lounge on a windy night is a common Cape Town complaint, and the 180mm storm end piece is a simple way to deal with it. It caps a 180mm single skin flue, shields the opening from gusts and keeps rain from running down the pipe into your fireplace.

Why fit a storm cowl
An open flue top catches wind and rain. A storm cowl directs the airflow so the flue keeps drawing, even in a strong south-easter, and a stainless steel cowl like this one stands up to coastal weather. Many larger wood fireplaces use a 180mm flue, so it is a common part to replace when an old cap rusts or blows off.
What it fits
It suits 180mm single skin flue pipe. If your flue passes through a ceiling or roof space where an insulated pipe is needed, ask us about the double skin version instead. It is also worth checking the condition of the flue below the cap, because rust or loose joints further down will undo the benefit of a new cowl. Can I fit it myself?
It slides onto the flue top, but the job is on the roof, so safety comes first. A ladder, a steep pitch and a windy day are a risky mix, and a loose cowl can blow off in the next storm. Our team fits it as part of our chimney cowl installation service.
