Description
Plenty of Cape Town lounges have only one good corner for a fire, and the Hydrofire Ardena was made for exactly that kind of space. It is an 8kW cast iron wood fireplace with a compact body, measuring 57.8 x 37.8 x 73.4 cm, yet it weighs a solid 110 kg. That weight is the point: it stores heat and gives it back slowly through the evening.
Hydrofire Ardena Cast Iron Fireplace Features
Cast iron that holds its heat
A cast iron fireplace warms up a little slower than thin steel, but it keeps radiating once the fire has burnt down to coals. You get an even, gentle warmth instead of hot and cold swings, and you spend less on wood over a winter.
Primary, secondary and tertiary air
The Ardena feeds air to the fire in three stages. Air from below gets the wood going. Air from above the door burns off the gases and washes across the glass to help keep it clear. A third stream at the back of the firebox finishes the burn, so less smoke goes up the flue and more heat stays in your home. Hydrofire builds it to meet the European Eco Design rules, which is part of what makes this Hydrofire fireplace a sensible long-term buy.
Compact, with a top flue
The shallow 37.8 cm depth means it does not push far into the room. The 150 mm flue leaves from the top, which gives a straight, simple route up through the ceiling. A quality handle and neat detailing make it easy to use every day.
Is the Ardena fireplace right for your home?
Hydrofire rates the Ardena for about 50 to 95 m2. That covers a typical lounge, a lounge and dining room together, or a small home. If your space is bigger, open plan or has high ceilings, look at a larger model in our freestanding fireplaces range. Send us your room size and we will confirm which 8kW fireplace or bigger unit fits best.

Ardena FAQs
Is the Hydrofire Ardena good for a small lounge?
Yes. It was designed for small to medium rooms, with a heating area of about 50 to 95 m2 and a compact body. In a very small room you can run it on a lower air setting so it does not overheat the space.
Why choose cast iron over steel?
Cast iron is heavier and stores more heat, so it keeps warming the room after the flames die down. It also tends to keep its shape over years of hot fires. Steel heats up faster but cools down sooner.
Does the Ardena need a chimney?
No brick chimney is needed. We fit a 150 mm flue from the top of the fireplace through the ceiling and roof, or connect this Hydrofire fireplace to a sound existing chimney where that is safe.
