Description
When the guest list runs to a dozen or more, one grid is rarely enough. The Home Fires 1500 gas and wood combo braai is the larger sister of the 1200 combo. It is a large built-in braai with a wider box that holds a stainless steel gas grill next to a full Home Fires wood braai. Light the gas for starters and side dishes while the coals settle, then cook the main meat over the fire.
Home Fires 1500 Gas and Wood Combo Braai Features
Four ways to split the box
Every pack uses the same 1500 braai box. You choose the balance between gas and wood:
- 2 burner gas grill + 1000 table braai: the largest wood side, and the maker adds an ember maker to this pack. For true fire lovers.
- 3 burner gas grill + 820 table braai: a generous wood side with a bit more gas space.
- 4 burner gas grill + 700 table braai: an even split for families who use both often.
- 5 burner gas grill + 580 table braai: the biggest gas grill, with a compact wood side for the odd weekend fire.
Even heat on the gas side
A gas and wood braai is only as good as its grill, and here the burners are flat cast iron with vaporiser plates above them, which spread heat across the grill and keep flare-ups down. On some grills you can swap one grid for an optional cast iron plate, handy for eggs, fish and smaller cuts.
A proper wood braai next door
The fire side has a removable ash drawer, a height adjustable grid and a potjie hook, according to Home Fires. Raise the grid for slow chops or drop it for a quick sear.
Doors that tidy it away
Two doors close the opening when the braai is cold. The bottom door folds down and gives you a work surface while you cook.
Is the Home Fires 1500 combo right for your home?
The box measures 154 x 105.5 x 64.5 cm, so plan a wide wall in a braai room, covered stoep or outdoor kitchen. It suits large families and people who entertain often. A good chimney or canopy is a must so smoke clears in a Cape southeaster. Compare it with our other gas braais before you decide.
Installation in Cape Town
We build the unit into brick or block, fit the flue and connect the gas side with a Certificate of Compliance. Read about our braai installation services to see how a project runs.
Home Fires 1500 Combo FAQs
What is the difference between the 1200 and the 1500 combo?
The 1500 has a wider and taller box, so it fits bigger gas grills and bigger wood braais. It also offers four packs instead of two, including a 5 burner grill and a 1000 table braai.
Which pack suits a family that mostly braais with wood?
Go for the 2 burner gas grill with the 1000 table braai. You get the biggest fire area plus an ember maker, and the gas grill is still there for quick meals during the week.
Can the 1500 combo go in a covered stoep?
Yes, as long as the wood side has a chimney or canopy that draws well and the gas bottle stands outside in open air. We look at both on our site visit before we quote.
