Description
The Home Fires 800 freestanding braai gives you a proper chimney braai without bricks, plaster or a builder. It stands on its own frame, takes wood or charcoal, and comes with a flue pipe and rotating cowl so smoke rises clear of your guests. It is a practical choice for a patio, a new lapa or a rented home where you cannot build.
Home Fires 800 Freestanding Braai Features
A complete braai out of the box
The braai comes with its stand, a flue pipe, a rotating cowl with slip-on base, a full-length braai grid and grid lifters. You also get a potjie hook, ash pan, poker and spade, so you can light up on day one.
Chimney that handles wind
The rotating cowl turns with the wind to keep the draw steady, which helps a lot in a Cape Town southeaster. Smoke goes up the flue rather than into the house or across the table.
Steel build, sized for family braais
It is made from steel and measures 54 x 80.5 x 176 cm with the stand, at about 107 kg. That gives a generous fire bed for a family meal or a small get-together, with a bottom door for storage.
Proudly South African
Home Fires started in Worcester in 1983 and still builds its braais locally. Spares and support are easy to get.
Is the braai 800 right for your space?
The 800 suits a family plus friends and works best in an open, ventilated entertainment area or covered patio. If you want a freestanding braai with chimney but have a tight corner, send us photos and we will check clearances. Compare it with other models in our freestanding braai range, or read our Home Fires Worcester guide.
Installation in Cape Town
Our team delivers, positions and fits the flue and cowl, and can extend the flue through a patio roof with proper flashing. See our braai installation services or the full Home Fires braai range.
Home Fires 800 FAQs
Does the Home Fires 800 need a brick chimney?
No. It is a freestanding braai with its own flue pipe and rotating cowl, so it works without any building work. Under a roof, we add flashing where the flue passes through.
Can I use charcoal instead of wood?
Yes, it is made for wood or charcoal. Many people start with charcoal on weeknights and use wood on weekends for the flavour and the fire.
